Dallas-Based Nightowl Coffee Celebrates Record-Breaking 2025 with Epic New York Mafia Party
I believe one of the most important responsibilities of leadership is making people feel celebrated. So this week I looked back at one of the most memorable nights we’ve ever created as a team—when we celebrated our biggest coffee catering season yet.
Earlier this year, I pulled out all the stops and hired Hunter Orcutt Events to bring vision I couldn’t shake: a one-night-only New York Italian trattoria with full mafia energy. Candlelit tables, casino games, cocktails, jazz, pizza, dramatic lighting, and guests dressed somewhere between black-tie and organized crime.

The result felt less like a company party and more like stepping into our own immersive restaurant for one unforgettable night. And honestly—that was the point. For one evening, I wanted to create that same feeling for our own people.
At Nightowl, we spend all year creating experiential moments for clients through DFW coffee catering, espresso catering, and mobile barista stations. For one evening, we wanted to create that same feeling for our own people.

Celebrating the Team Behind the Growth 🏆
At Nightowl, we recognize coffee catering as a full-contact sport, so our end-of-year awards always carry an athletic theme. This year’s winners represented everything that made 2025 special: hustle, versatility, leadership, hospitality, and teamwork.
- Ellis Jeansonne (124 events) and Pablo Sotelo (116 events) took home Offensive Player of the Year
- Maria Patlan earned Defensive Player of the Year
- Cameron Griffin won Rookie of the Year
- Anya Darnell earned X-Factor of the Year for her versatility as both our in-house photographer and superstar Sr. Event Barista
- Solomon Lewis secured MVP for representing the most balanced value across Operations and Production
- Nina Durrin earned another historic banner with her third consecutive year in a row of $1MM+ in sales
The truth is, records are exciting. Growth is exciting. But the real accomplishment is building a team people genuinely love being part of.

What Made Our Company Party so Great🍸🎰🍕
The short answer is our team—but every great party still needs a game plan. My previous 10 years in corporate America taught me exactly how not to throw a party, but it also taught me the value of a strong framework. Just like coffee catering itself, the freedom and fun come after the structure is in place. So, my friends, here is the framework.
1. Pick a Theme People Can Fully Commit To
The best themes let people feel elegant and ridiculous at the same time. We wanted guests dressed fancy while still leaning into character and costume for fun.

2. Cast Vision, Then Hire Experts
I painted the big picture. Hunter Orcutt Events handled the details and brought the dream to life better than I could’ve imagined.

3. Be Willing to Spend Money on People
I love a discount as much as anyone. But celebrating people well requires recognizing value. Generosity communicates appreciation louder than speeches ever will.

4. Go All-In on Details
At some point during planning, you’ll want to cut corners and say, “We don’t really need that.” But every detail communicates something to your team. I want to be known as someone willing to do the unnecessary to make people feel celebrated.
5. Think Practical, Not Corporate
People don’t want a three-hour ceremony. They want structured fun. Pizza. Cocktails. Casino tables. White elephant gifts. Energy. Experiences. Connection.

Thank You to the Team That Made It Happen ❤️
